Te Manaaki and Triple B Charters

Russell, Bay of Islands, New Zealand

For over twenty years, Sharyn and Dudley Smith have been welcoming guests to their humble abode, high above the quaint little village of Russell in the Bay of Islands. Te Manaaki offers guests a choice of either a fully self-contained villa accommodation, or a studio apartment downstairs offering bed and breakfast style accommodation.

Guests who stay in the villa also have the option of having breakfasts prepared for them instead of making their own. Attractively appointed, sunny and spacious this separate accommodation is set in its own grounds next to the main house.

The studio apartment is a large and sunny suite that opens out onto it's own courtyard with outdoor furniture where you can relax after a day of hauling in fish and enjoy a cold drink.  It features a super-king bed which can be made into twin beds, a sitting area, sliding glass doors that open out onto the courtyard, private off-street parking and a mini kitchen with microwave and fridge.

Triple B Charters

Captain Dudley Smith offers saltwater fly fishing, light tackle fishing and sightseeing from his 33' custom charter boat.  You can meet the boat just down the hill at the wharf where Dudley will pick you up for a day of fishing on the Triple B.  With such species as kahawai, trevally, kingfish and snapper, you are sure to have a great day on the water.  These fish will readily take a fly when conditions are suitable, and The Triple B will provide all the necessary gear for fly fishing as well as light tackle, using only the finest tackle available.

Triple B's large cockpit is ideal for four people but can handle a maximum of six, with a minimum charter of four hours. The unique feature of this vessel is its very stable riding ability in most weather conditions. Interior features include a modern galley, dining area, berth space and bathroom.

Charters include two crew members; captain and mate and of course all the tackle needed for the charter as well as coffee and tea, with lunches available at an additional charge on request.

Our clients love spending time with Dudley and Sharyn at Te Manaaki and fishing the waters of the Bay of Islands with Capt Dud.  We're sure you will enjoy your stay as there are lots of fun little shops in the village which is an easy walk from the property just down the hill a short distance.  There are nice restaurants and of course don't miss the Bay of Islands Swordfish Club, the oldest game-fishing club in New Zealand, dating back to the times of Zane Grey.
